North Hills High School choral department will hold the third annual Madrigal Dinner on Dec. 7 at 6:30 p.m. at the St. Athanasius Church social hall at 7 Chalfonte Ave. in West View. Tickets are $12 for adults and $7 for students and can be reserved online at www.northhillschoralmusic.org or by calling the North Hills Athletics and Activities office at 412-318-1438. A limited number of tickets will be available at the door, but reservations are strongly encouraged. The fundraising event is sponsored by the North Hills Choral Parents Association.
The evening will include a home-cooked pasta meal served by choir members, while the Madrigal Players will present a 13th century-style skit entitled, “Rapunzel, Rapunzel, Let Down Your Heir” in period costumes with music provided by the Madrigal Choir comprised of North Hills students.
A Madrigal dinner is a 21st century recreation of the Renaissance feasts held in the great baronial halls throughout England during the twelve days of Christmas. The feasts were filled with stunning pageantry, bawdy humor, endless amounts of succulent food and extraordinary music.
“We were thrilled with the response to the event in recent years and are excited that we have created a new tradition for the community and choral program at North Hills,” said choral director Shaun Cloonan.
Raffle baskets will be available during the evening. Proceeds will benefit the North Hills Choirs’ combined trip with the North Hills Marching Band to Orlando, Fla., and Walt Disney World Resort. During the April trip, students will perform and attend workshops at Disney theme parks.
